tools are not the whole answer
We won't get where we are going if we don't learn to think differently and that's something coaches and consultants do naturally. Each of tools mentioned about is designed to shift thinking, sometimes in profound ways. Some of your normal ways of thinking will be challenged.
In the past coaches were taught to only ask questions and to be led by the client. Questions are to focus the client so they can deepen their internal awareness. As coaching moved into business the client often had specific leadership or career issues they wanted to work on, often at the suggestion of their company. this required coaches to have backgrounds in organizational development and leadership development to be effective. Now deeply effective coaches often wear four hats: coach, facilitator, trainer, and consultant.
With the crisis of global warming a new focus has emerged that requires grounding in new areas. Many coaches have moved into utilizing the new research coming from neuroscience to help clients function better under stressful conditions. The recognition by many businesses that they need to become regenerative has opened the door to the need for a much deeper understanding of systems theory, biology and the natural sciences and how these are connected together. To be truly regenerative we will have to think and act like nature. We must become a part of nature, not the overlord.
Shifting companies from being profit driven to being life driven requires new learning on all fronts. While the challenge is real, so are the benefits. Profit is like food for the organization, so it needs to be a part of the equation, but it can no longer be a driver. The innovation and creativity we need to exhibit to make this change successfully - so we can see the planet begin to thrive, will make this a very exciting and rewarding experience.
