are humans unique?
In this presentation, Kathryn answers the question: How are humans intrinsic to nature? What is special about us, and how can we contribute to the continued health of the planet?
What they are saying
I learned far more about values than in any other context in my life. I feel your course has a ton of potential…
~John Giordanengo, WRV
Kathryn was enlightening, she improved my understanding of values and culture a lot. She related her points well to the audience. My company will be better because of hearing her. ~Mike Awada, Astounde
Thank you so much for speaking on resilience and sustainability in the workplace and in our daily lives. Your examples, from nature, of these traits were inspiring. In addition, we enjoyed the interaction with other members regarding how we deal with change and shifts. Your presentation focused on the positive aspects of making changes, necessary from generation to generation, just the way nature does. We must recognize this as leaders and coworkers in the workplace.
~Mary Ellen Lewis, Colorado Business Women

Sermons and spiritual presentations
Gaia, this is the name for the living Earth that came from James Lovelock's research on how this planet, maintains the stability of oxygen in our atmosphere as she's maintained it for over 65 million years. We couldn't live on a dead planet, so it is a happy thing that we share life. To keep the Earth alive, and all life on it robust and vital, is the focus of my ministry.
My ministry is focused on engaging with congregations and the community to enhance their understanding of Gaia. Life loves life, and LIFE loves you, as you are a part of her. For too long we have ignored, dismissed and resisted being engaged in and with LIFE. Our society is built on the illusion of being separate from nature. Our society has been built on the twisted hope of dominating nature. Our society is human centered, but NOT LIFE centered. That needs to change!
I have been working on values for over 20 years. Through Jane Jacob's work, I discovered values as living systems, and that has made all the difference. Of the three value systems, two are human centered and the third is LIFE centered. Two got us to the situation we are in, and only one will get us out.
Community Minister
As a Unitarian Universalist Community Minister, I'm committed to bring the Seventh Principle alive and central to our faith. Learning and practicing the lessons from the Earth offers a new path to many of our most cherished goals, including addressing racism. Living in right relationship and valuing diversity are key ways Mother Nature ensures that life thrives. These are simple, not easy, actions that have profoundly deep implications.
